Rethink on primary school closure
School close protest
Parents and pupils demonstrated against the closure plan
A controversial decision to close a Torquay primary school is to be reconsidered by Torbay Council.

Plans to close Upton St James school has caused anger and outrage among parents in Torquay.

Torbay Council needs to make cuts because they expect to have 1,000 fewer schoolchildren in five years' time.

But the scrutiny committee says it is not happy with the way the consultation process and the council's executive will reconsider it in two weeks' time.

Although Upton St James is considered to be a good school, the condition of the school buildings were a major factor in making the decision.

On the day the council recommended it's closure a large demonstration took place outside to show support for the school.
