Owners can choose to have pets cremated individually |
A new crematorium for pets has been opened in Devon by two former employees of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Dan Clarke and John Howell have 48 years joint experience of training people and guide dogs in Exeter for the charity.
When the charity's Cleve House centre closed, the two men decided to set up their new venture.
The Valley Pet Crematorium at Christow is only the second in the county to deal exclusively with companion pets.

Dan Clarke believes it will help people grieve for the loss of their pets.
He said: "We've got multiple pets at home - rabbits, dogs, cats and guinea pigs.
"We can help people at the end of an animal's life, rather than at the beginning of their life and I'm sure our knowledge and understanding will help in that transition."

The crematorium has a room where owners can say a final farewell before their pets are cremated. John Howell says many people want to have a quiet moment with their pet before they say goodbye.
He said: "I'd hesitate to call it a chapel of rest, but it's a room where they can be alone with a treasured pet for a few moments and see the animal has been treated properly.
"I think there is definitely a need for this kind of service and I'm sure people will appreciate it."
Owners can choose to have their pets cremated on their own and are issued with an individual cremation certificate.
