The hospital wants to ensure cuts do not impact on patient care |
A number of jobs are to go at a South West hospital because of financial problems. About 30 administrative and managerial posts are likely to be cut at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
The Plymouth Hospital's NHS Trust has already frozen 60 vacant posts while it reviews its staffing.
The trust is also expecting to announce more job savings measures at the end of January.
Redeploying staff
In October, the trust said it had found ways of saving 10m but still needed to save another 3m to break even this financial year otherwise it could be forced to postpone major expansion schemes.
The Chief Executive of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Paul Roberts, said unless the savings are made, the expansion plans will be put at risk.
He said: "Our aim is to do this as much as possible through holding posts which are already vacant or where we can redeploy individuals into vacant posts.
"What we are trying to avoid as far as possible is compulsory redundancies.
"While I can't say there won't be any compulsory redundancies, we will try and keep those to an absolute minimum.
"I want to make sure that any cuts we make do not have any impact on patient care."
