Swan killers reward rises
Dead swan
The swan was too badly hurt to save after the attack
A wildlife charity has made a new appeal for more witnesses to help catch a gang which beat a swan to death at a Devon park.

The Torbay Wildlife Rescue Service made its plea as the reward for catching the killers, offered by local people, rose to 4,000.

The bird was beaten to death with what was believed to be a golf club at Goodrington Park in Torbay on Saturday, 28 September, in an attack described by the group as "sickening".

The police say a gang of up to 50 youths was seen in the area when the attack happened.

Some witnesses came forward and suggested names of those who may be responsible.

But more information is need if any prosecution for animal cruelty is to be successful.

A vet was called to help the swan after its injuries were discovered, but the bird was too badly hurt to save and had to be put down.

Other birds in the park have also been the victims of attacks.
