Crowds flock to new lido
Tinside Pool
Tinside Pool is due to close for the winter on 7 September
Plymouth's newest waterfront attraction is proving so popular that its closure for winter could be delayed.

Tinside Lido on Plymouth Hoe has already attracted 7,000 visitors in its first week of opening.

It is set to close for the winter on 7 September.

But Alison Bradley, of Plymouth Leisure, said that if the high demand continued, the pool might remain open a little longer.

"It is great that people want the pool to stay open," she said.

Major refurbishment

"We are reviewing the situation on a daily basis, and we may be able to stay open for an extra week, but I can't confirm that yet."

The 1930s lido opened last weekend for the first time in 11 years after years of campaigning and a 3.3m refurbishment.

It was shut down in 1992 after health fears over sewage.

But money has been spent on the pool's base, engineering works and a new system to filter and chlorinate the sea water which fills it.

It has been made more accessible for disabled people and the changing rooms have been altered to allow families to change together.
