Tinside will initially open until 7 September |
About 200 people turned out on a cloudy day to use Plymouth's newest waterfront attraction. After years of campaigning and a 3.3m refurbishment, the 1930's Tinside Lido is open for business.
Despite cooler temperatures, swimmers said they were enjoying the experience.
The lido was closed in 1992 after health fears from sewage.
Much of the money has been spent on the pool's base, engineering works and a new system to filter and chlorinate the sea water which fills it.
Opening times
It has been made more accessible for disabled people and the changing rooms have been altered to allow families to change together.
Architects have worked closely with Plymouth City Council and English Heritage to ensure the Grade 2 listed Art Deco building is preserved as much as possible.
There was an official opening ceremony on Friday by Councillor Claude Miller, whose father, William Miller, was involved in opening the Tinside Pool extension in the 1930s.
The pool will initially open until 7 September. However, depending on the weather and the demand, it could open for longer this summer.
Plymouth City Council said of the opening: "This is a chance for the people of Plymouth to sample the pool and see everything that has been done."
