More parking for Derriford
Derriford Hospital
At peak times parking can be a problem at Derriford Hospital
Plymouth's Derriford Hospital is hoping to create hundreds of extra parking spaces for staff.

The Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust has applied for planning permission to provide 360 spaces behind the College of St Mark and St John.

At peak times finding parking at Derriford Hospital can be very difficult and the Trust is anxious to try to solve the problem.

The plan is that the new spaces would be provided on a park and ride basis, with up to two buses used to shuttle staff between Derriford Hospital and the staff car park.

Construction works

It would mean that the existing staff parking spaces on the Derriford site could be converted into patient and visitor parking.

The Trust says the additional parking is just a short to medium term solution to improving car parking, especially while construction works continue for the Peninsula Medical School and the Cardiac extension.
