The Sir Bedivere supplied coalition ships |
More South West-based troops have returned to Devon from the Gulf. Royal Marines from 539 Assault Squadron, which is based in Plymouth, arrived home on landing ship RFA Sir Bedivere, which berthed at Millbay Docks.
The Sir Bedivere left the UK last September to carry out exercises in the Gulf as a support ship.
She provided ammunition to eight Royal Navy and four US Navy vessels, including coalition minesweeper vessels.
Humanitarian aid
Once minesweeping tasks were over, the ship became the home for 300 Royal Marines in Kuwait.
The commanding officer of 539 Assault Squadron joined the ship to welcome home the 26 marines and 50-strong crew on board.
