Treasure Island's success has boosted the theatre |
Supporters of financially troubled Derby Playhouse have handed a 13,000-name petition to the city council. The petition calls for the renewal of grants from Arts Council England to secure the theatre's future.
The Playhouse was put into financial administration in November and shows were cancelled.
Actor Robert Lindsay has backed the theatre, saying it will only thrive with government support.
Cast and crew of the theatre's Treasure Island show walked to the council house after the matinee on Wednesday to show support.
The Arts Council will meet on Thursday to decide whether or not to reinstate the Playhouse's grant. It withheld a 700,000 grant in December because of concerns about its management.
