MP hits out at recycling mistakes
The MP for Amber Valley has stepped in to the row over a new system for collecting household rubbish.

Judy Mallaber (Lab) has asked the borough council to explain changes to its rubbish collection, which have angered some residents.

Household waste is now only picked up once a fortnight so collectors can focus more on recyclable materials.

Householders have complained refuse has been left to rot for days with maggots appearing in some of their bins.

Considered response

Ms Mallaber said: "I am concerned about the way the whole system has been introduced

"Everybody is in favour recycling, but they have been so incompetent in the way they have brought it in - there have been loads of mistakes - that it is undermining everybody's willingness to get involved in recycling.

"That is very worrying because it is so important to get this right."

Amber Valley Borough Council said it is currently working on a response to Ms Mallaber's complaint

The council had earlier asked for residents to be patient while it went through a "learning curve".
