Schools get 500,000 cash boost
More than 500,000 is being spent upgrading three schools in Derbyshire.

Two thirds of the money will be used to build new classrooms at Charlotte Infant School in Ilkeston - to accommodate the growing pupil numbers.

The rest of the cash is being spent on games areas at Shardlow Primary School and Dallimore Primary school, Ilkeston.

Work on the games areas should be completed by the end of March while the new classrooms are expected to be in place by the summer.

Councillor Alan Charles, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for education, said: "This work is part of an on-going programme of improvements we are making to schools across the county.

"We are particularly pleased to have received grants from the New Opportunities Fund and the Biffa landfill tax fund to enable us to carry out much of this work."
