Schools benefit from new building
Three primary schools in Derbyshire are to get extra teaching space and improved facilities.

A two-classroom teaching block with toilets will replace temporary structures at Whitecotes Primary School in Whitecotes Lane, Chesterfield.

Grassmoor school in North Wingfield Road at Grassmoor and St John's C of E school in Belper, will also both have a two-classroom extension constructed.

The work is expected to cost around 830,000 and should finished by summer.

Learning conditions

The work at Grassmoor Primary School will see a single temporary classroom block replaced and is the first phase of a scheme which will hopefully see the junior wing of the school replaced in the future.

The extension, which will also include toilets, will be at the front of the school and has been designed to fit in with the style of the original Victorian buildings already on the site.

Councillor John Williams, leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: "We are committed to replacing temporary classrooms with permanent, modern buildings.

"This work will enable us to fulfil that aim in another school and improve the learning conditions for all pupils."
