Arts centre plan given go-ahead
A multi-million-pound arts centre will be built in Derby city centre after being approved by councillors.

The Quad project had been in doubt after opposition from veterans who were concerned about it being built on a memorial garden.

The council's Conservative group had also been opposed to the scheme but plans were approved on Wednesday.

The building is expected to house a two screen arts cinema, along with galleries and workshops.

But Laurence Webster, President of the Derby and Burton Korean War Veterans, said he is disappointed but hopeful that a compromise can be agreed.

"We want to work with the council to see if we can keep the memorial gardens, if not where they are now, perhaps close to where they are now," he said.
