The A5012 Via Gellia road between Cromford and Newhaven has claimed four lives in the last three months.

MP Patrick McLoughlin, who represents West Derbyshire, said there is a need for a national body to investigate dangerous roads.

But Roads Minister David Jamieson said police and the Highways Agency fulfil the role and that things would improve.

Speaking in the Commons, Mr McLoughlin said: "I think it is time for the government to think about a CAIB - a 'Car Accident Investigation Branch'."

Mr Jamieson said: "A programme of measures is proposed - including consistent assigning of significant bends, advisory speed limits, rumble strips and chevron signing."

He added that drivers would be warned of the dangers at both ends of the road.
