Protestors to step up campaign
Quarry protest
Camapigners have threatened to blockade the quarry
Environmental campaigners from across the country are arriving in North Derbyshire on Friday.

It is part of ongoing opposition to plans to re-open two sandstone quarries near the historic Nine Ladies stone circle in the Peak District.

Anti-quarry protestors, who have been at the proposed site for the past four years, say they are to step up their direct action tactics.

They have warned they may attempt to blockade existing quarries.

The protestors argue that re-opening the Endcliffe and Lees Cross quarries would be harmful to the landscape.

Members of the Nine Ladies Anti-Quarry Campaign have been camped on Stanton Moor since 1999.

In January 2004 they were ordered to leave the site by the High Court.

The company proposing the re-opening of the quarry, Stancliffe Stone, told BBC Radio Sheffield that it has followed the legal process and the protestors should do the same.
