Jabs offered after mumps outbreak
Vaccination
Many young people have missed the MMR jab
Students at the University of Derby are being offered vaccinations after a series of mumps cases.

Around a dozen students have been to the university's medical centre with signs of the virus.

Mumps causes gland swelling, but occasionally can lead to more serious problems, including meningitis.

Vaccinations are being offered at the university's three main campuses in the city at Kedleston Road, Mickleover and Britannia Mill.

Surgeries across the East Midlands have recently seen increases in cases of mumps, particularly in people in their late teens and 20s.

Health professionals say part of the cause is that many young adults have missed the MMR vaccination.
