Extra travel for GP out-of-hours
Patients in parts of Derbyshire will have to travel further to see a GP outside normal surgery hours.

From the start of October, people living in Swadlincote, Ashbourne and the surrounding villages will have to travel to Burton or Derby for services.

The changes are in response to new rules introduced earlier this year allowing doctors to opt out of evening and weekend cover.

Emergency home visits will still be available for people too ill to travel.

Debbie Jackson from the Derbyshire Dales and South Derbyshire Primary Care Trust.

"Obviously for people in Swadlincote that means travelling a bit further.

"But people who live nearer to Burton and nearer to Derby, who previously had to travel into Swadlincote will not have to travel as far.

"So you will get some people who might find it more difficult but for people who are too ill to travel there will still be home visits."
