A Derby GP surgery, which only serves asylum seekers, may be shut because there are not enough patients. Local health managers are meeting this week to decide whether to close the Sai Medical Centre on Sale Street.
Another option is to expand its services so drug or alcohol addicts can use it as well.
Hundreds of patients were sent to other surgeries to make way for the asylum seekers, but far fewer are being sent to the city.
Secretary of the Derbyshire Local Medical Committee, Dr John Grenville, felt the problems could have been pre-empted if money was made available at an earlier date.
He said: "I think it was absolutely essential that we thought about how we were going to deal with a whole new group of patients with a whole new group of problems.
"As professionals, we did think about this very hard, we did bring it up early on but the problem was that there was no finance available."
