Derbyshire County Council has spent �42,550 on street lighting to reduce the fear of crime among residents. The council says people feel safer when residential areas are well lit because it deters criminals.
The work was done in conjunction with Central Networks, formerly known as East Midlands Electricity.
Councillor Walter Burrows said: "Street lighting has a big impact on how safe people feel when walking on the streets."
Recent installations were made in Alfreton, Apperknowle, Hasland, Heanor, Holmewood, Killamarsh, Long Eaton and Shirebrook.
Cllr Burrows said: "All the locations have been picked following discussions with the local community safety partnership and county councillor to ensure that the lighting will have the most impact."
