Town sees spate of arson attacks
Firefighters say a spate of arson attacks in a Derbyshire town overnight could have cost lives.

Crews in Ilkeston were called out to 16 separate fires started in domestic wheelie bins between 0100 GMT and 0200 GMT on Friday.

No one was hurt but two cars were badly damaged and two houses slightly damaged after bins were pushed against them before being set alight.

The police have confirmed they are investigating the incidents.

Sub Officer Dave Briggs from Ilkeston Fire Station warned the situation could have been much worse.

He said: "Two of the bins were placed very close to the doors of houses and it was just luck the flames didn't spread into the two houses.

"This was obviously very serious and we may not be so lucky next time."
