Speed cameras in the wrong place
Two speed cameras on one of Derbyshire's busiest roads have been taken down because one had been sited in the wrong place.

Police say the camera, on the A6 at Ambergate, was too close to a speed limit sign.

As a result, motorists were not given a chance to slow down.

The camera has been taken down, together with its partner on the other side of the road, until a more appropriate site can be found.

Major shakeup

The story has been revealed on the day the Conservatives have promised a major shakeup of the legislation governing speed cameras if they come to power.

They claim the speed cameras have done more to generate cash for the Government than to protect drivers.

The Tories are pledging a review of speed limits - and the positioning of cameras.

Government ministers say scores of lives have been saved because of the devices.
