Public asked to tackle drink driving
Derbyshire police are asking people to tell them about drink drivers this Christmas.

A 24-hour hotline is now in place to target people who regularly drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The service received almost 150 calls last Christmas and the police said they acted on all information.

Last year 271 drivers in collisions were breath tested and 23 provided a positive test, two more were arrested for being impaired through drugs.

Meanwhile, Derbyshire police received 148 calls from the public, either through their own hotline or from Crimestoppers.

Chief Inspector Paul Berry said: "Last year was the first time that we had a 24-hour dedicated telephone line available to the public.

"I would hope that we could build on the success of last year and receive even more useful pieces of information."

Derbyshire police said they were disappointed with the number of people who continued to drink and drive over the last festive season.
