School cash unused claims government

Schools in Derby and Derbyshire are still waiting for 1.5m of government funding to be allocated, according to new figures.

The Education Secretary Charles Clarke has published a detailed analysis of Local Education Authority budgets for the coming year.

It shows that nationally over 590m has not yet been passed on to schools, though the Government concedes there may be good reasons.

In Derby 200,000 has yet to be allocated to individual schools, while the figure for the rest of Derbyshire is 1.3m.

But both authorities have included the money in their education budgets and will spend it, unlike 19 local authorities which have not.

The government has brought out to the figures in an attempt to show that apparent shortfalls in school budgets is not their fault.
