Vintage buses help reunite flood-hit town in Cumbria

A vintage bus service is extending its service to help people in a Cumbria town cut off by the recent floods.

Workington Transport Heritage Trust runs a free service on Boxing Day when regular buses are not operating.

Due to the floods no road bridge spans the River Derwent in Workington, so the service is split between the south and north side, and extends to Maryport.

The single decker Lillyhall-built Leyland National and a double decker Bristol VR are driven by volunteers.

Until 1700 GMT, the hourly service leaves Harrington Victoria Square, running via Moorclose shops, Derwent Howe and the bus station to Barkers Crossing footbridge in Curwen Park.

Connecting buses on the north side of the crossing will take passengers to Seaton Hunters Drive, Flimby, Ewanrigg, Elleborough Main Street and Maryport.
