The Prince of Wales has begun a two-day trip to Cumbria to highlight the importance of rural communities. He showcased some of his favourite projects in the region to Environment Secretary Hilary Benn MP. On Monday evening, the prince was visiting the Black Swan Pub in Ravenstonedale, which was transformed by his Pub Is The Hub initiative. Prince Charles also visitd a village shop, which was converted from a ground-floor bedroom. It has become an integral part of the community since the transformation and also holds community events and fund-raising activities. He moved on to a supermarket in Kendal to view local produce and meet local suppliers. The first day of the tour concluded with a meeting to discuss rural issues at The Flock-In in Rosthwaite.
