A recipe for a date and walnut cake loved by the late Queen Mother is among the culinary delights in a cookbook by Prince Charles' food business.

The Duchy Originals Cookbook - the Prince of Wales' food brand - also includes a recipe Henry VIII is said to have given to Anne Boleyn.

The Duke of Cornwall, who has written the foreword, founded the organic and natural food brand in 1990.

The recipes include traditional food like bubble and squeak and lamb stew.

The prince's foreword reads: "I hope that the Duchy Originals Cookbook will inspire many more people to care about what they eat and where it comes from, and above all, to enjoy and benefit from eating it."

The recipes for the book, compiled by Johnny Acton and Nick Sandler, are based around the four seasons and have been inspired by visits to the producers behind the brand's goods.

They include barbecued lamb, Maids of Honour Tarts using almonds, marmalade and double cream, a Christmas Leftover Sandwich, and a Victoria Sponge - which first became popular during the reign of Charles' ancestor Queen Victoria.

The publication, which went on sale on Thursday, also features a section on lambs and contains photographs of some of the young animals at Charles' Home Farm.

Profits from the cookbook will go to The Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation.
