Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called to a beck crossing on Lingmel Gill, after the alarm was raised by the 62-year-old's husband.

A doctor was also flown to the scene, and the woman, from Whitehaven, was pronounced dead on Wednesday afternoon.

An RAF Sea King helicopter was scrambled during the incident, but later stood down.
