The injured walker was airlifted off Scafell Pike

During the latest incident, members of the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team assisted a walker on Scafell Pike suffering from an ankle injury.

He was treated at the scene, then airlifted to hospital by a helicopter from RAF Boulmer.

It was the fourth rescue during what a team spokesman described as normally one of their quieter periods.

At the time of the latest call-out at the weekend, some team members were already in the area taking part in the Wasdale Show.

At 978m (3,208ft) Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England.

Last month there were calls for charity walkers tackling it as part of the Three Peaks challenge to be better prepared, following a spate of rescues.
