Anniversary of city floods marked
The plaque being unveiled
The floods are believed to have directly affected 1,925 properties
People affected by the floods which devastated parts of Carlisle last January came together on Sunday to mark the first anniversary.

There was the equivalent of two months of rain over a 24-hour period in the city and the cost of the flood damage is estimated to be up to 250m.

A plaque was unveiled on the Eden Bridge to show the height the flood waters reached.

Two "new beginnings" events were held for victims of the flood.

The events at the Crown & Mitre hotel were organised by Carlisle City Council, Carlisle Churches Together and Communities Reunited, the welfare initiative set up in the aftermath of the flood.

It included performances by musicians, singers, dancers and a comedian.

Carlisle City Council leader Councillor Mike Mitchelson said: "The events will provide an opportunity to reflect on the floods as well as looking to the future.

"Communities Reunited has sent out invitations to flood-affected residents as well as emergency services and groups who provided assistance during the floods."
