Jobs to be cut at biscuit factory
McVitie's Carlisle
The company says it is committed to the Carlisle factory
Biscuit makers McVitie's is cutting 19 jobs in Carlisle after the factory was badly damaged in flooding.

In August the company announced up to 33 posts could go, but on Monday it said the final figure was 19, with one of those a compulsory redundancy.

The factory was badly damaged by the floods which swept through the city in January and there had been doubts about its future.

The announcement about the jobs follows a period of consultation with unions.

A spokeswoman for parent company United Biscuits said the figure of 19 would be made up of 18 people taking voluntary redundancy and one compulsory redundancy.

She said: "The rest of the people they thought may have been affected have been redeployed."

The company has said it is committed to the Carlisle site but some lines could not be repaired after the flooding damage, which meant some production had to be moved.
