Christmas food treat for elderly
Elderly and vulnerable people living in the Cockermouth area are to receive a special Christmas food hamper.

Cumbria Contract Services staff and meals on wheels volunteers will be delivering the hampers on Thursday.

The aim is to ensure that everyone entitled to the meals on wheels service has a festive treat.

The Slater Trust charity has donated funds for the hampers, and the Co-op store on Station Road in Cockermouth will be putting them together.

Coun Tim Heslop, cabinet spokesman for Cumbria Contract Services, said: "The meals on wheels service provides invaluable support to frail and vulnerable people in the community.

"Everyone can play their part in helping people this Christmas by being a good neighbour and ensuring that we are aware of the needs of others, especially elderly or vulnerable people living close by."
