Walker rescued from gorge ledge
A man was winched to safety after he fell down a gorge and injured his legs.

Seven members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were involved in the rescue after two of the man's companions raised the alarm on Tuesday night.

The 42-year-old, from Penrith, Cumbria, fell around 10ft into the gorge at Greenside, near Glenridding.

Members of the mountain rescue team winched him from the gorge and he was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Mountain rescue team leader Dave Freeborn said: "The man had been walking with three friends. He landed on a ledge above water.

"Two of them went to a youth hostel to raise the alarm and the other stayed with him.

"He was winched up out of the gorge on a stretcher using a rope system."

The man was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, in Carlisle, for treatment to his legs.
