The team says the new base will help it operate better
A Cumbrian mountain rescue team says its new base will mean a boost for its work.

The Langdale/Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team has now moved into the new building and it was formally unveiled on Saturday.

The base includes space for meeting and training, better storage areas and a radio room.

It cost 500,000 with a big contribution coming from the Lottery.

Sorting equipment

Team leader Nick Verrall said: "The old base had a lot of character to it.

"But the new base is going to make us be able to operate a lot better. It has got more rooms to it so we can train better, become more efficient.

"The whole layout of the base will make it easier for when we come back from rescues - sorting equipment, drying equipment and getting it ready so we are ready to go out at any time."

The team needed a new base after the number and complexity of rescues highlighted some inadequacies with the old building.
