A new timetable is being introduced across the Barrow area.

It means people in North Scale, on Walney Island, will lose their evening services and the number of buses operating on Sundays and during weekday peak times will be reduced. Biggar Bank on the island is also losing its evening services.

Bus operator Stagecoach says the cuts are necessary because not enough people use the number 5 route between Walney and Barrow.

Des Barlow, chairman of the North Scale Residents' Association, argues many people, especially the elderly, will be left isolated.

Some of the cuts have come as a result of Cumbria County Council withdrawing subsidies.

Senior officials are due to meet to discuss whether money might be available from other sources to pay for the reinstatement of Walney's bus services.
