Possible link to baby's death

Detectives investigating the death of a baby girl, whose body was found encased in concrete, say they are not ruling out a possible link with a similar death 13 years ago.

The remains of a six month-old baby was found in a garage in Barepot near Workington a year ago.

Police say the body could have laid undiscovered for up to 15 years.

Now Cumbria Police say they have not ruled out links with the death of a baby boy in Millom in 1989.

Both the child's legs had been severed.

The identity of the boy and his killer are still unknown.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Carter, said he was not ruling out links with the discovery of the Millom body.

So far there has been little response to an appeal to relatives of the dead baby girl, who police have christened Lara.

Detectives have said they are ready to take DNA samples from about 300 people in the Barepot area, where the baby's remains were found on 13 September 2002.

Police were called to the garage after a man doing some DIY work found the remains.

Despite extensive testing, a cause of death as yet to be determined.

The Cumbria Police incident room can be contacted on 01900 844331.
