National park officials want to know what people think

Residents, businesses, politicians and visitors are being asked for their opinion on a new "greenprint" for the future management of the Lake District National Park.

A major consultation period will run from now until the middle of August.

The 46-page management plan contains suggestions of how every aspect of the national park should function.

It includes issues such as landscape and nature conservation, farming and land management, tourism, traffic and transport, built heritage and historic environment.

National Park Authority Chairman, Michael Bentley, said: "I hope you will let us know what you think."

Under the 1995 Environment Act, the national park has two main purposes.

They are to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage, and to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the national park by the public.
