The cameras will record vehicles coming over the hill |
Video cameras have been set up on a stretch of road in Cumbria to monitor whether cars are being driven dangerously along it.
The equipment will focus on a length of the A590, near Greenodd.
Three teenagers were killed in a crash in the area in March.
The cause of that crash has not yet been established.
But county councillor Ron Mein said some drivers were speeding through the section at night without their lights on.
He also said a bump in the road was known locally as the "ski jump" because of the way it throws cars off balance at speed.
Vehicles' position
He said the information the cameras collect would be used to give a clearer picture of how drivers were using the road.
Mr Mien said: "Five days ago they erected a camera - a video camera - that records every single vehicle that comes over that hill.
"What they are trying to do is collate information as to the position of vehicles as they top the brow of the hill.
"It will also serve another propose. It will for once and for all determine whether people are driving along that stretch of road with no lights on at night because the camera can work in the dark."
