The protest over Peugeot's closure of its Ryton plant in Coventry is to be taken to the Labour Party conference. Leaders from the Transport and General Workers' Union (T&G) will address a fringe meeting in Manchester.
In all 2,300 jobs will be lost. Peugeot said high production costs and intense competition meant further investment at Ryton could not be justified.
Convenor Jim O'Boyle will tell the meeting the end of the plant marks the "disappearance" of UK manufacturing.
He will address the meeting on Tuesday evening alongside T&G secretary Tony Woodley.
Mr O'Boyle will emphasise that shutting the plant will end the heritage of car making in Coventry and call for government action to protect manufacturing.
