Peugeot workers are now targeting other PSA Peugeot Citroen sites |
Workers from the threatened Ryton Plant are to start protesting at another car chain owned by their parent group. Friday's protest will target a Citroen site for the first time in the campaign to save 2,300 jobs at the Warwickshire plant set to close next summer.
Workers will be at the Murley Citroen dealership in Albert Street, Rugby, on Friday. The firm has three Warwickshire sites, just miles from the Ryton plant.
PSA Peugeot-Citroen aims to wind down work at Ryton over the next year.
It will move production of the 206 to France and start work on the new 207 plant in Slovakia.
'Justice and fairness'
Jim O'Boyle, Transport and General Workers Union convenor for the plant, said the company should think again about their plans to relocate to Slovakia.
He said: "PSA Peugeot Citroen should remember that prior to building cars in the UK their market share here was minuscule.
"Without the hard work and effort of the workers at Ryton over many years, Citroen cars would still be as rare as hens' teeth in the UK.
"This is a reminder to both the company and the public that this campaign is about justice and fairness to loyal workers who have been sacked purely in the name of greed."
