Toll opponents get cash from road
Toll gates at the M6 Toll
The M6 Toll opened in December 2003
A wildlife trust has defended its decision to accept money from the M6 Toll's operators even though it opposed the motorway when it was being built.

Midland Expressway Ltd will hand over the takings to good causes, including Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, on its Drive for Charity Day on 13 July.

Trust spokesman Nigel Evans denied the charity was being hypocritical.

"We have to take a commonsense approach to this and the road is there now," he said.

Mr Evans added: "It's operating successfully I believe. They fulfilled all of their planning obligations.

"So we as a trust are now happy to receive the money from them to help us to do our work."

The M6 Toll, which opened in December 2003, links junction four of the M6 at Coleshill, Warwickshire, with junction 11 near Cannock, Staffordshire.
