Pupils offered Mandarin lessons
British teacher visits Chinese school
A taste of China comes to Warwickshire
Schoolchildren in Warwickshire are to learn to speak Mandarin after new links were forged with a region in China.

The scheme has come about after headteachers spent a week in Shenzhen in south-east China.

Pupils from schools in Warwickshire and Shenzhen are to write and email each other and plans are being made to share lessons over the internet.

The trip was funded by the British Council as the first stage of building ties with the booming city.

International Development Officer Judith Young said: "We were able to see the differences and similarities between the education systems.

"There are many areas in which our schools, teachers and pupils will be able to benefit from a different cultural perspective and links with a country that is becoming very important on the world stage."

Schools taking part were: Alcester Grammar, Etone Community School and Technology College, Harris School, Henley-in-Arden High, Higham Lane School, North Leamington Community and Arts College, Polesworth High and Welcombe Hills School.
