'Walk-out' binmen return to work
Refuse collectors in Coventry who walked out in protest at plans to cut their pay have returned to work.

The city council is to introduce an agreement which seeks to equalise pay for different types of work within the authority.

Ninety refuse collectors in Coventry walked out on Wednesday but went back to work on Thursday.

It is the third unofficial strike action by staff in recent months.

'No choice'

Councillor Kevin Foster, the cabinet member for city services, said measures were in place to help householders.

Speaking earlier in the week, he added: "We're conscious of the inconvenience for residents.

"The civic site in London Road in Coventry will be staying open until 2000 GMT for the rest of the week, so that if householders do need to get rid of excess waste, we can get rid of it."

The council says the new agreement follows the introduction of nationally-agreed guidelines.

Unions have called for a meeting between local MPs and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
