Colette Lynch was stabbed on the street |
Police officers are to be interviewed following the conviction of a mentally-ill man for stabbing a woman to death outside her home in February. Percy Wright, 35, from Rugby, Warks, admitted the manslaughter of Colette Lynch in the town on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will also question civilian staff at Warwickshire Police.
Ms Lynch and Wright had contact with police in the days before the stabbing.
Mother injured
Wright knifed the 24-year-old mother-of-three in Garyth Williams Close on 3 February.
On Friday, he was made subject to a hospital order to be detained at a secure psychiatric unit until he is no longer deemed a danger to the public.
John Crawley, IPCC commissioner for the West Midlands, said in a statement: "Our investigation began in February but we have been unable to interview Warwickshire officers and police staff due to the on-going criminal investigation into Ms Lynch's death.
"Now Mr Wright has been convicted we are taking steps to ensure all relevant officers and staff are interviewed."
Mr Crawley said the interviews will be conducted under police disciplinary procedures, after the IPCC concluded the issues being investigated do not include any criminal offences.
He added: "We continue to work in close co-operation with North Warwickshire Primary Care Trust and their inquiry to ensure any essential lessons concerning improved working between the police and care services as a result of both of these investigations are implemented."
Ms Lynch was dead on arrival at hospital following the attack, in which her mother was also injured.
