Residents may lose water supply
Tap water
Temperatures are expected to reach 30C on Thursday
More than 80,000 people in and around Rugby could lose their water supply after a power failure at a reservoir.

Water levels are low at Barby reservoir after pumps at nearby Draycote basin failed on Wednesday. Due to the hot weather demand for water has increased.

Electricity was returned within four hours but not enough water has since been pumped into Barby from Draycote.

Severn Trent is asking people not to use water unless they absolutely have to as the reservoir may run dry.

If people in the area do not save water then we could be in a situation where we run out
A spokesman for Severn Trent

"As fast as we are pumping the water back in, people are taking it out," a spokesman for Severn Trent told BBC News on Thursday.

Barby reservoir supplies Rugby and all surrounding villages. Postcode areas affected are CV 21, CV 22 and CV 23.

Temperatures are expected to reach 30C on Thursday.

Severn Trent want people to conserve supplies on Thursday and say that they are also relying on an expected change in the weather on Friday which will mean the demand for water will fall.

'Isolated incident'

"Despite electricity supplies being returned within a few hours, water levels have not recovered overnight and we are starting the day with a low level and demand is high," the spokesman added.

"If people in the area do not save water then we could be in a situation where we run out of water.

"But this is an isolated incident and if we can get through today with people saving as much as possible then, with the weather change tomorrow, things should get better."

Severn Trent Water is the world's fourth largest privately-owned water company and serves more than 8m customers in the UK.
