Fresh hope for leukaemia teenager
Monika Mazlak
Monika Mazlak was diagnosed as having leukaemia in May last year
A special clinic has been held in an effort to find a suitable bone marrow donor for a 16-year-old girl who may only have weeks to live.

Monika Mazlak, from Stratford-on-Avon, has leukaemia and needs a transplant.

There are 9m potential donors registered around the world but no suitable match has yet been found.

People from across the UK travelled to Warwick Hospital on Tuesday. Doctors are now testing about 200 new blood samples for compatibility with Monika.

'Time bomb'

Monika, who moved to Warwickshire from the US five years ago, was diagnosed as having acute myloid leukaemia in May last year and has been having chemotherapy.

Her mother, Sandy, said: "Her immune system is now up.

"So it's a waiting time bomb to see if the leukaemia is going to come back before we can find a donor.

"There's a 95% chance it will come back but we don't know how long it'll take before it does."
