Donor needed to save girl's life
A 16-year-old schoolgirl who has leukaemia is appealing for a bone marrow donor to save her life.

Monika Mazlak, from Stratford-upon-Avon, was given the all-clear last Christmas - but the leukaemia has now returned.

About nine million people in the world are currently registered as bone marrow donors.

But there has been no match so far for Monika, who moved to Warwickshire from the US five years ago.

Hospital screening

She was diagnosed as having acute myloid leukaemia in May last year.

She knows she needs a bone marrow transplant soon as her body cannot put up with much more chemotherapy, and is appealing for potential donors to come forward.

Monika said: "If it doesn't help me, at least it'll help somebody else."

People have to give a blood sample to see if their bone marrow is suitable.

Warwick Hospital is planning to screen all its staff.

Anyone who might be able to help is being urged to contact the Anthony Nolan Trust.
