Fresh hope in eviction saga
Traveller families at Bulkington
The travellers moved onto the greenbelt land two years ago
Travellers fighting eviction from green belt land in north Warwickshire are to meet council officials to discuss alternative accommodation.

The High Court ruled on Wednesday that an eviction order served on 21 families on Wolvey Road, Bulkington, is lawful.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council have been trying to evict the families, for the past two years.

The travellers did not apply for planning permission to erect buildings, fences and roads on the land.

They bought the land before moving into caravans on the site, building roads and erecting fences.

Although they had purchased the land the development of the site was against the law.

The council postponed an eviction in January after the group dug trenches, formed a human shield and set fire to caravans to prevent bailiffs from evicting them.

David Willshaw, a solicitor representing the travellers, said the council needs to work with them to resolve the problem.

The meeting will take place next week.
