School closures caused by weather

North Petherwin Primary School was closed because of icy road conditions

A number of schools in Cornwall have been forced to close on the first day of the new term.

Cornwall Council said the closures were caused either by icy road conditions or heating problems.

A number of minor road accidents have also been reported and some bus services have been affected.

The Met Office has issued a warning of widespread ice and temperatures are not expected to rise much above freezing. Sleet or snow is also forecast later.

The schools which have been closed are St Day and Carharrack, North Petherwin, Egloskerry, Pendeen, St Ives Infant School and St Madderns.
