Drivers' road temperature warning

Sandbags
Sandbags have been used to stop water seeping on to sub-zero roads

Motorists have been told to drive with extreme caution because of possible weather-related problems on the roads in Devon and Cornwall.

Some road surface temperatures are expected to fall as low as -5C.

Council workers have been sandbagging the edges of fields to stop water seeping on to roads.

Gritters have been out since about 1500 GMT treating all the region's major routes and will be back out from 0500 GMT on New Year's Day.

The Met Office has forecast a minimum overnight air temperature of -4C, with a widespread frost and icy conditions.
