The Headland Hotel say brasserie diners seem happy to pay
Restaurant diners in Cornwall are being asked to pay another 1 on their bills to help an environmental campaign.

Food for Thought has been organised by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) to mark World Oceans Day on 8 June.

The group, which campaigns for clean and safe recreational water, said individuals had a duty to protect and conserve the oceans.

The week-long campaign is supported by several restaurants, including The Sands Brasserie in Newquay.

'No complaints'

Spokesman Gareth Sorsby from the Headland Hotel, told BBC News the campaign would highlight the importance of a clean and sustainable environment.

"Our brasserie is right on the beach, so a lot of surfers use the restaurant and a lot of the staff who work here also surf," he said.

Mr Sorsby said there had been no complaints from customers, who appeared "happy" to pay an extra 1.

Other participating restaurants include the Flying Fish Restaurant and the Gylle Beach Cafe in Falmouth, the Revival in Charlestown and the Alba Restaurant in St Ives.

The campaign will run until Friday.
